Tonight Dustin and I went to fancy dinner at Applebees. We had a great time. We shared an appetizer and an entree. We had great conversation and enjoyed each other's company. Very relaxing... especially since I got out of cooking for the evening.
Then we came home.
And our keys wouldn't work in our door.
(...and yes, we paid our rent.)
After a LOT of working at the problem, WD-40, trying to break in the sliding glass door, trying to break in the basement windows, angry words, estimates from locksmiths, calling the police, calling the fire department, calling our parents, calling our landlord (who is in Manistee, MI about 3 hours away)... we were at the end of our rope.
We found a locksmith who was only going to charge us between $45 and $60 for the service (instead of the other guy who was going to charge $125). We went to the local coffee shop to pee (hey, i'm 30 weeks pregnant, people!) and get a latte and a doughnut and wait out the 30 minutes until the guy said he would be there. We got back home and he was exactly on-time. Within about 25 seconds of him being here he had the door open.
Apparently our landlord (or whoever) had installed the lock on the door upside down and tonight was the night it decided to become a problem. The tumbler was stuck (whatever that means). He fixed it, changed the lock so it was on right-side up and he was on his way 10 minutes later. Our lock is good as new. I have never been so happy to pay $55 in my life. I kept the receipt and this will be coming off next month's rent.
The whole ordeal cost us some sanity and two and a half hours of time. So much for our relaxing evening!!

I can't imagine trying to stand there and do that while you have to pee...thank goodness for coffee shops! :)
